John Fergusson has used this script successfully for many years, and now teaches it to the LIFE Leadership College students. Most of us cringe at the very thought, but it works! With strangers, we often don’t have time to build a relationship, and it also serves as a very useful aide memoire to the main points of the gospel. We believe it was originally developed by Rodney Howard-Browne’s team. Keys to its success are:
1) Memorise it carefully
2) Don’t be diverted by arguments. Stick to the script!
3) Be prepared to follow up anyone making a decision, by early contact, mail, sending literature, and ensuring they are grounded in an alive church.
SOUL-WINNING SCRIPT
Can I just take a moment to ask you a couple of quick questions?
First, has anyone ever told you that God loves you and that He has a wonderful plan for your life?
Second, and most important, if you were to die this very second do you know without any doubt, that you would go to heaven?
If “Yes” – say ‘Great, why would you say “Yes”?’ (If they respond with anything but “I have Jesus in my heart” or something similar, PROCEED WITH SCRIPT.)
If “No”, or “I hope so”, or anything else, PROCEED WITH SCRIPT.]
Let me quickly tell you what the Bible says. It says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, and “for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord”. It also says, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved”. And you’re a “Whoever” right?
Can I ask you your name?
May I say a quick prayer for you?
Lord bless (FILL IN NAME) and his/her family with long and healthy lives. Jesus, make yourself real to him/her and do a quick work in his/her heart right now. If (FILL IN NAME) has not received Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Saviour, I pray he/she will do so now. Amen.
(FILL IN NAME), if you’d like to receive the gift of eternal life that God wants to give you today, would you repeat this prayer after me? Say it aloud, and with your whole heart.
Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sin. Wash me and cleanse me. Set me free. Jesus, thank you that you died for me. I believe that you are risen from the dead and that you’re coming back again for me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost, and a hunger to know you and your love. I’m now saved. I’m a child of God. I’m forgiven, and I’m on my way to heaven because Jesus is now my Lord.
As a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I tell you today that all of your sins are forgiven. Always remember to run to God and not from God because He loves you and has a great plan for your life.
