At the end of the evening an older lady, in tears, came to the front of the church. The pastor greeted her with a hug, and announced that she wanted to say something. Struggling to regain composure she explained she had had a hip operation and was due for another, which she was scared about. She also shared that she had macular degeneration and cataracts, and the doctors wouldn’t operate on the cataracts for fear that she wouldn’t heal, as she was diabetic.
We were finishing a weekend at South City Baptist Church in Tauranga, New Zealand, who had hosted a wonderful two-day School of Healing with about 50 delegates. We were closing the evening service by asking for testimonies after we had prayed for the sick for the final time.
‘But now I can see you,’ she said, looking at me. ‘And I can read the overhead screen.’ The pastor explained that they printed special song sheets for her each week. ‘But now I can read every word! Before you would have been just a shape!’ Hallelujah!
Another lady then testified that she could hear in her left ear which had been made totally deaf by a blow from a former husband. Earlier a lady had run round the hall rejoicing to be out of pain for the first time in years! Backs had straightened, arthritis disappeared, stomach and other pains gone, many more than we could account for. God is so wonderful!
The School of Healing had begun with a call for people with bad backs, and eight people stood. I felt the Lord say to bring them all to the front, and invite others to come and lay hands on them. One by one God showed us what the problems were. One lady (very honestly) confessed to strain. We led her in a prayer for forgiveness for taking on too much, and she was soon pain-free! Down the line we went, each one a perfect illustration of another aspect of healing! God seemed to have arranged the whole thing. Among the line for healing Bron also stood, her back giving trouble too. The lady who prayed for her rested her hand on the exact spot (without consultation), and Bron actually felt the Holy Spirit massaging the pain away!
The next day we sent the delegates out in pairs to knock on
local doors. Almost all received a polite welcome and several were healed. These good folk really took the message to heart, and we know that many more will be healed through their hands. In a short time we made good friends and we look forward to returning to that city.
Ministry grows
Two weeks earlier, Bron & I had toured the North Island to speak in Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International meetings in Napier, Dannevirke and Feilding. Many were healed at these too, and over 13 made decisions for Christ. And a week later I flew down to Palmerston North to speak at a conference on evangelism.
Meanwhile our commitments at our church are growing apace. I have been helping with various aspects of administration, but have now been invited to be on staff at Life Leadership College, the Bible College we began last year, and where I am teaching each week. The students are a delight, hungry for the Word, and I am learning new skills. As with everything CLCA touches, the vision is huge, but nothing is too big for God.
