Miracles in Nepalgunj
Most of our intrepid team of 11 who went to this remote southwestern city in Nepal had never been on a missionary trip before. Some had not even left New Zealand! Our youngest members were 16, and just 6 years old. It was not your typical missions team...
But it was clearly put together by the Lord, who delighted to use all the gifts he had given to each one. We only had one day to adjust to the culture, food, hard beds and wet-floor bathrooms before we were straight into three days of pastors’ meetings and a School of Healing.
Some 200 pastors and leaders had come from all over Western Nepal, some travelling several hundred kilometres. John’s teaching was aimed at building unity, a kingdom of God vision, and to prepare for the upcoming event planned for Easter 2010, and was very well received. The meetings finished with the whole conference being anointed by the leading pastors of the city, after which they lined up before our team who prophesied over each one. We were amazed and blessed to see how the Lord gave us accurate and unique words for every person. Many shed tears, and we believe that several ministries were restored.
The School of Healing began with a line of people coming forward with shoulder problems. By God’s grace, all were miraculously healed in short order. But one was taking time. John called our youngest team member forward who laid her hand on that tough case, who was instantly healed! Jesus prayed, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure’ (Luke 10:21). We don’t have to teach children to have faith. They already have it! We just need to give them permission to use it.
Our team recorder noted dozens and dozens of miracles, including a young boy blind in one eye, who was seeing perfectly. Several deaf people were healed, including this man who had been deafened in his left ear by a blow of chastisement when young. He was not only healed, but set off to pray for others, many of whom were also healed!
There were many manifestations of demons too (not a little disruptive to the speaker!), but who were summarily cast out by our faithful and hard-working team. The delegates were then sent out to pray for the sick, and returned rejoicing that the Lord had used them. We were told afterwards that no one had ever used this method of teaching before in Nepalgunj. They took to it like ducks to water, and we know that the believers of that city will continue to heal the sick.
The final two days were spent in villages, holding a ‘Medical Camp’ with a local doctor. We had bought a large supply of medicines, and were able to minister to several hundred sick and needy people. Some were healed through prayer, some were delivered of demons, and many received medical treatment from the doctor. Again, it was an unprecedented style of ministry in this area.
Meanwhile John flew to Ilam, home of some of the finest tea in the world, to research future possibilities for ministry. Perched on a hillside several hours from the plains in the south-eastern corner of Nepal, it is beautiful, remote, and badly in need of the gospel. But faithful, local people are working there, and there might well be opportunities for us next year.

In September we flew to Sydney for our nephew’s wedding, only to hear that a tornado had wrecked our property. John returned forthwith, to find the bedroom without a roof, and the garden in ruins. But although we lost over 20 mature trees, including some real favourites, by a miracle of God not a single new planting (and we’ve planted 200 trees this winter) was touched. Even John’s new orchard (behind the trellis above) survived intact, and the cats and sheep were fine too. We praise the Lord for his protection!
But we did spend a whole weekend with a team of 50 helpers picking up glass from the neighbour’s glasshouses! The rest of the clean up has taken months, and we have firewood for Africa!
Latest news: We continue to minister around New Zealand, recently in Napier and Te Awamutu, and continue to see God working miracles of healing. One lady in Napier was able to kneel and run up stairs for the first time for years. Praise the Lord! God is good.
